Condor aircraft on the tarmac ready for a long-haul flight to South Africa

Condor Airlines has resumed its seasonal Frankfurt–Cape Town route as of today, 17 September 2026, marking the start of the German leisure carrier’s 2026/27 South African winter programme. Flights operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the season, running until late April 2027.

Route Details

The service operates non-stop between Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Cape Town International (CPT), with a flight time of approximately 11 hours 30 minutes southbound and 12 hours northbound. Condor is using its Airbus A330-300 on the route, configured in three cabin classes: Business, Premium Economy, and Economy.

Condor has served the Cape Town market for over a decade but suspended German leisure routes to South Africa during the northern hemisphere summer, returning each September when Cape Town enters its spring season. The route is particularly popular with German-speaking travellers, who represent one of Cape Town’s largest long-haul tourism segments alongside the UK and US markets.

What It Means for Travellers

The resumption adds a useful mid-week option for German visitors - and a good connection point for travellers from elsewhere in Europe routing through Frankfurt. Cape Town in September and October is in the early part of its dry, warm spring season, when wildflowers bloom across the Cape Floral Kingdom and the Atlantic coast begins warming up.

For the full season through April, fares on the Condor service generally undercut code-share connections on Lufthansa and South African Airways, making it worth checking directly alongside more familiar options.

Planning a Visit

Cape Town’s spring and early summer period - September through December - is widely considered the best time to visit: long days, low rainfall, and sea temperatures that reach swimwable levels by November. Our South Africa practical guide covers entry requirements, currency, and transport from Cape Town International into the city.

Beyond the city itself, the wider Western Cape is within easy reach for day trips and short stays. We cover the best routes and options in our South Africa destinations guide, including the Winelands, Garden Route, and the Cape Peninsula. You can compare flights to South Africa across all carriers - including Condor - to find the best fares for your dates.
