South African Tourism has opened registrations for Sho’t Left Travel Week 2026, with the deal-booking window running from 24 to 30 September. Packages from participating accommodation providers, tour operators, and transport companies offer discounts of up to 50% off across the country — timed to coincide with World Tourism Day on 27 September.
What Sho’t Left Travel Week Is
Sho’t Left is South Africa’s annual domestic travel campaign, run by South African Tourism to encourage South Africans to explore their own country. The Travel Week creates a concentrated period in which operators publish exclusive deals available only within that seven-day window. Previous years have seen significant price reductions on safari lodges, coastal accommodation, city hotels, and package tours.
The 2026 edition sits within the broader Tourism Month programme launched in Durban on 13 August, which carries the theme “Growing South Africa’s Tourism Sector in the Digital Era.”
Why September Is One of South Africa’s Best Months to Visit
The timing is well chosen. September falls at the start of South African spring, when conditions across most of the country are at their most agreeable:
- Cape Town and the Western Cape — warm and increasingly dry as the winter rains ease off. Wine country comes into colour and whale watching at Hermanus peaks from August through October.
- Kruger and Limpopo — still dry season, which is prime time for wildlife viewing. Animals concentrate around waterholes and vegetation stays low enough to make game spotting straightforward.
- KwaZulu-Natal coast — mild temperatures, lower humidity than summer, and good diving conditions around iSimangaliso.
