George — Airport Hub

Knysna — Best All-Round Base
Knysna is the centrepiece of the Garden Route — the famous Heads (twin sandstone cliffs flanking the lagoon mouth), the historic waterfront, the surrounding indigenous forest, and the highest concentration of accommodation on the route. The town can feel very busy in December–January; the shoulder seasons (April–June and September–November) are considerably more pleasant.

Storms River is the eastern end of the Garden Route and the gateway to Tsitsikamma National Park — home to the Storms River Mouth walk, the canopy tour, and the nearby Bloukrans bungee jump. The village itself is tiny (a handful of shops and restaurants), but the accommodation is specifically oriented around adventure activities and the forest environment.
